Σχεδόν πέντε μήνες έχουν περάσει από την αεροπορική και χερσαία επίθεση του Ισραήλ στη Λωρίδα της Γάζας και τον μαζικό εκτοπισμό εκατομμυρίων. Οι τραγικές ελλείψεις σε τρόφιμα, νερό και ιατροφαρμακευτική περίθαλψη έχουν οδηγήσει σε αυτό που τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη περιγράφουν ως ακραία επισιτιστική κρίση.
Το Παγκόσμιο Πρόγραμμα Επισιτισμού του ΟΗΕ έχει διακόψει τις παραδόσεις τροφίμων στην αποκομμένη βόρεια Γάζα, ενώ η ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια φτάνει με το σταγονόμετρο στον παλαιστινιακό θύλακα εν γένει. Ο ΟΗΕ ζητά να εξασφαλισθούν ανθρωπιστικοί διάδρομοι, χωρίς όμως, κάτι τέτοιο να καθίσταται δυνατό, την ώρα που η Παλιστίνη βιώνει ανθρωπιστική καταστροφή.
Μελέτη της υπηρεσίας του ΟΗΕ για τα παιδιά προειδοποιεί ότι ένα στα έξι παιδιά στη βόρεια Γάζα υποφέρουν από έλλειψη τροφής με τους πρώτους θανάτους από ακραίο υποσιτισμό να καταγράφονται ήδη.
